這個sem 上lit and ed 雖然吃力 , 但迫到自己看書也是件好事 :))) 上個sem 三個linguistics 的course : world eng , internet 同semantics pragmatics 都不用看書，只要看好functional 的reading. roman 雖然有指定文本james joyce 和kafka，但由於當時我的essay 和presentation 都投入了我男神t.s. eliot 的prufrock 的懷抱，所以整個modernism 我只懂impersonality , fragmentation和intertextuality, 什麼dubliner/epiphany/stream of consciousness 都只有朦朧印象，哈哈。整個year two sem two 都只是被o'sull defeated 的頹廢mode , 書實在沒有認真看。

這本Pygmalion，其實說好好看又不是，但有些quotes strike me a lot indeed , 例如(全都是Eliza 說的)：

“apart from the things anyone can pick up (the dressing and the proper way of speaking, and so on), the difference between a lady and a flower girl is not how she behaves, but how she's treated. I shall always be a flower girl to Professor Higgins, because he always treats me as a flower girl, and always will; but I know I can be a lady to you, because you always treat me as a lady, and always will”

“I notice that you dont notice me”

“Why did you take my independence from me ? Why did I give it up , I'm a slave now, for all my fine clothes”

“I sold flowers. I didnt sell myself. Now youve made a lady of me I'm not fit to sell anything else. I wish youd left me where you found me”

“Every girl has a right to be loved”

lovely, eliza. 忽然由Eliza 聯想到Jane Eyre 。我認為，她們作為女性受讀者欣賞、憐惜的原因在於，雖然她們一方面愛Higgins / Rochester，但她們忠於自己的信念/信條/信仰，痛苦的拒絕了自己所喜歡的人。這拒絕尤其突顯了她們選擇的自由，相信是feminist writing 裡其中重要的元素。

英國文學上喜歡的女主角還有Jane Austen 筆下的elinor 和elizabeth bennet 和jane bennet 。當然她們的女性形象與eliza doolittle 和jane eyre 是好不同的，但各自都有可愛之處。

Gender 在文學鑑賞上真是個好有趣的研究角度！！ (*≧▽≦) 而當中我特別喜歡看女性形象塑造的變化！！(男人有啥好看呀lol ) 由child lit 開始看的格林童話，到 但丁的beatrix , petrarch 的laura,到 jane eyre 和eliza doolittle，再到後期的 story of an hour 、海明威的hills like white elephant... 女性的representation 一直隨社會進化而演變。甚至拉到最近上映的gravity , 男女主角戲份比例明顯的不平衡，女角ryan stone 脆弱同時又強悍的形象，全都可以gender 角色切入分析呀~~~

p.p.s. 以前曾想，假如讀上去，我會想專供children's literature , 但說著說著，其實feminism 都好有趣吖。希望evelyn 下個sem 會開gender and lit 啦 ><
